Hemp+Honey – Skin Care Line Review
As I read about Hemp+Honey from the company’s website, the mission of the brand behind the products, HempStrong, struck a chord with me:
“to bring innovative industrial hemp products to the market which meet a three-tier level of standards; they must be healthy to the consumer, sourced from sustainable resources, and have a positive economic outcome to the greater community. ”
OK, so what are the products and what is so great about them?
When you’re a huge fan of moisturiser you are always on the look out for a good one, and by ‘good’ I mean as natural, yet user-friendly as possible. And so I was intrigued at the prospect of trying the Hemp+Honey body cream that consists of: organic hemp oil and manuka honey, and a number of other ‘plus’ ingredients such as beeswax, coconut oil, aloe vera, matcha green tea and vanilla, or pomegranate.
After most running workouts in Hawaii I usually come home, hydrate, stretch or foam roll, and maybe do some core or leg strength work – all the time still drenched in sweat – which by this point slowly evaporating, leaving a fine layer of salt on my skin. To remove the salt, I find myself constantly washing my face with water, drying it – and then, in what has become a ritual, layering on moisturiser (I do also shower – sometimes – incase you were wondering…)! It’s a pretty simple regime, one that has allowed me to figure out pretty quickly whether or not a moisturiser is going to work – and the Hemp+Honey body cream does. Here are my three reasons why:
It’s soft and smooth, and soaks straight in to my skin (that’s the omega rich hemp oils). You can feel it working.
Its consistency is just right. Not too thick but not too light either thanks to the balance of beeswax, oils, shea butter and aloe.
It simply smells delicious! The fragrances of vanilla and matcha green tea, or pomegranate are subtle, not overpowering.
The remaining Hemp+Honey products that I’m currently putting to good use include a soap bar, lip balm, lip refresher and hand butter. The soap is proving to be an easy-to-lather, delightful smelling bar of cleansing goodness – that doesn’t dry out your skin – which I can highly recommend! The lip and hand products are similar to the body cream in a sense that they are light yet effective, and also very versatile. I’ve used the lip refresher on my face after yoga classes, but also on leg scrapes sustained whilst trail running. The hand butter is great for smoothing out my knuckles after swimming or aqua-jogging in a pool or the ocean, but it’s also a treat for bruised toes after long runs. The healing power of omega-pumped-oils should not be underestimated, especially when it comes to the feet of a runner in the depths of marathon-training-mode.
But whether or not you subject your epidermis to the ordeals of endurance training, I know that you’ll find the Hemp+Honey products to be a refreshing change to petroleum-based lines. Hemp is a crop that we should all reconsider – its potential is huge and I’m glad to support a company who are creative, diverse and open-minded.
I am happy to say that I’ll be a brand ambassador from this point forward because when you find something that works – well, you want to share it with people!
